Places to Camp Around Los Angeles

  • Leo Carillo State Park – located just off the Pacific Coast Highway, this campground has 130 campsites and is right across the street from the beach. Explore the tide pools, caves, and reefs or swim in the ocean or hike the nearby trails. 35000 PCH, Malibu California.

  • Sycamore Canyon Campground – a great campground with beach access and close to hiking trails. There are washrooms, showers, and a dump station right on site too. 9000 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu California.
  • Malibu Creek Campground – each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. This campsite is a couple of mile hike from the location where the TV series M*A*S*H* was filmed. There you can still find some leftover set paraphernalia and some informational signs. If you are flying into Los Angeles to pick up your RV rental you will have a few options for airports. If you are looking to get picked up at the airport by the RV rental company you will want to make sure that they will pick you up from the airport that you are flying into. Not all RV rental companies will pick you up at all airports. Some RV rental companies will only pick you up from certain airport hotels, so do your homework before you book your RV rental and your plane tickets.

  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) – the most popular airport in the Los Angeles area. LAX is located in the west part of Los Angeles. In my experience chain restaurants are good, but they are usually not write home to mom fabulous, this one is. Tommy’s has 30 locations across California.   • Pink’s Hot Dogs – Pink’s is a landmark in Hollywood, first opening its doors in 1946. Pink’s has served many celebrities over the years, this can be seen by the signed celeb pictures adorning the walls.   • Philipp’s – this deli-style dinner is like stepping back in time from the sign out front to the pictures on the walls. You get an amazing French Dip sandwich with your choice of meat and bread, and it comes pre dipped, definitely worth the stop. 1001 Alameda St, Los Angeles California.
  • The Pie Hole – whether you are in the mood for a sweet pie like the Earl Grey Pie or something savory like the Chicken and Waffle pie, this is a great stop. 714 Traction Ave, Los Angeles California.
  • Katsuya Hollywood – the restaurant floor is open so it is a great place to look for local celebrities. The place has a real romantic vibe. If you go make sure that you order the crispy rice, the baked crab handroll, and the creamy rock shrimp and you will not be disappointed. 6300 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles California.

There are so many things to do in the Los Angeles area that you could spend your whole RV rental adventure there. Leave your RV rental at the campground and use transit to visit every location on your list.

  • Venice Beach – walk, skate, or bike along the one and a half-mile boardwalk that is Venice Beach. Take in the buskers, singing, dancing, juggling, walking on broken glass, the entertainment is endless. There are hundreds of street vendors selling everything from lunch, temporary tattoos, and crystals to fortune-telling and t-shirts. Oceanside, Venice Beach California.
  • The Hollywood Museum – the official museum of Hollywood. This museum has 100 years of Hollywood history from the silent movies to Marilyn Monroe’s million-dollar dress. There are four floors of authentic show biz treasures. 1600 Highland Ave, Hollywood California.
  • Rodeo Drive – though most of us can’t afford to do actual shopping on Rodeo Drive we can all do a little window shopping. Beverly Hills California.

Things to do with Kids in Los Angeles

There are so many things to do in Los Angeles with kids that do not involve Disneyland. Don’t get me wrong Disneyland is great and everyone should spend a couple of days there, but don’t make it your whole trip, check out these other local attractions. Check the websites out before you go and see what the parking will be like if you bring your RV rental.   • Kidspace Children’s Museum – this is a great place for kids to burn off some energy while learning about the world around them. Expect kids to get muddy, sandy, and wet while they explore nature, science, and technology. Annual Events in Los Angeles

Some of the biggest parties have become yearly events. From music festivals to parades there are so many fantastic annual events going on in and around Los Angeles. Lots of these events are family-friendly so pack your bags and bring the kids.

  • LA Film Festival – it only makes sense that Los Angeles would be the premiere city to take in the annual film festival. The LA Film Festival will make all guests feel like they are on the red carpet mingling with the stars. So rent an RV and take the movie buff in your life on a vacation of a lifetime. The event takes place in various locations in Culver City, California.
  • Abbot Kinney Festival – the festival takes place on the last Sunday of September and host dozens of food trucks, hundreds of vendors selling unique handmade wares, 4 music stages, and 3 beer gardens. What to Expect Weather Wise in Los Angeles

Since Los Angeles is located right on the Pacific Ocean it does not get as hot as some other major cities as there is the cool breeze always coming off of the ocean. The hottest month is July with an average temperature of 72℉ (22℃). The coolest month is January with average temperatures of 55℉ (13℃). Los Angeles has dry summers and wet winter with the average rainfall in January of about 3 inches.

Think about picking up an RV in Los Angeles in the late fall or winter months. The temperature in California in the winter has an average daytime high of 68℉ (20℃). With weather like that, Los Angeles is still a great vacation spot in the winter and it still allows for cheap RV rental pricing.
