Billings is smack in the middle of the wild west and surrounded by mountains. It is known as the Magic City because it seemed to grow like magic in 1882, when it was founded as a railway town. It has many green spaces within the city and more a short drive away.

Things to do in Billings

The Rimrocks – taking a hike here is a nice way to introduce yourself to the city. If you’re flying in, you will see the geological sandstone formations from the plane.

Pictograph Cave State Park – features pictographs from 200-2100 years ago. These depict some local Native American history. There is a part-paved, part-gravel path weaving around the caves. Facilities include a visitor center and picnic area.

ZooMontana – is a fairly small zoo that takes about an hour to see. Unlike most zoos, the animals here are not taken from the wild but received from other zoos or taken in if unable to live in the wild. You will only see animals that are native to the climate at this educational attraction. Another reason to visit this ‘feel-good’ zoo is the animals are given larger roaming spaces than normal.

Yellowstone Art Museum – is a relatively small museum that features changing exhibits and often hosts different events to spice things up.

Dehler Park – Experience small-town USA and see a ball game! Dehler Park is fairly new and is reputable for a great burger. Did you know that Bob Dylan played here in 2010?

Dan Walt Gardens – beautiful gardens run by enthusiastic people!

Reef Indoor Water Park – If you have little ones with you, the Reef Indoor Water Park is great for burning off some energy on a road trip!

Where to go from here
