Campgrounds in Atlanta
- Stone Mountain Park Campground – Full hook-ups available. Located in the heart of Atlanta’s very own adventure park.
- Poteete Creek Recreation Area – Campground has a boat ramp, picnic tables, swimming beach and fishing. Full hook-ups are available.
- John Tanner State Park – This park is best known for its large sand swimming beach, there are also lots of opportunity for fishing and boating as well.
- Watson Mill Bridge State Park – This park contains the state’s longest covered bridge, spanning 229 feet across South Fork River.
- Creekwood Resort – This is a small, quiet, campground with lots of trees. All sites have level concrete slabs and free Wi-Fi.
- KOA Campgrounds – KOA is a chain of campgrounds across the US and Canada. These campgrounds usually have lots of amenities including pools, general stores and mini golf.
Things to do in Atlanta
A good place to start when looking for things to to in Atlanta is the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. The Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau has lots on information on things to do and restaurants in Atlanta.
Atlanta is located in the middle of some of the countries most beautiful scenery. To the north is Chattahoochee National Forest. East of the city is Oconee National Forest. Southeast you will find Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge. In the southeast corner of the state lies Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Throughout the area there are also many state parks and lakes. There are many great locations for camping in and around the Atlanta Area.
There is a lot to explore in the city of Atlanta. Famous for the World of Coca Cola, you will also want to visit the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, the Museums, the Zoo and the Aquarium. “Inside CNN” tours are also available.
Piedmont Park is Atlanta’s ‘Central Park’. Situated between 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue, it is 180 acres. Joined to the botanical gardens, there are numerous picnic spots and walking paths.
Whether you want to see something contemporary or classical, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Opera and the Ballet offer a variety of shows during the year. Other options include art exhibits, theatres, outdoor concerts and festivals.
Depending on the time of year you are visiting Atlanta, you may want to see the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team, the Atlanta Hawks basketball team, the Atlanta Braves baseball team or the Atlanta Falcons football team. Of course there is always the Atlanta Speedway to watch the NASCAR races. Motorhomes book out well in advance of race dates so make sure you reserve your RV with lots of time to spare.
Bonaroo Music Festival is an annual 4 day event has multiple stages featuring a wide array of musical styles and has had some on the biggest names in music bless their stages over the years. There is a comedy tent, a silent disco, and vendors selling unique products and food and drink. Atlanta is our closest location to the Bonaroo Music Festival. We suggest booking early as we will book out for this festival as we do book out every year. 6-9 months before this festival is not too soon to be reserving your RV rental.
